Up in the cool cool hills of Jamaica’s St Thomas, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday dirt and grime, just across from the Botanical Gardens, is a magical, mystical place, shrouded in tranquility, where one imagines the flora and fauna have witnessed untold history. In fact, the story goes that the fountain was discovered by a brutally flogged enslaved African in the 1690s who stumbled on the waters which seemed to miraculously heal his deep cuts and bruises.

In salute of all our sisters,
I think its time to say,
we'll remember you not just this month
but each and every day.

The Hummingbird is another symbol of regeneration or resurrection. Hummingbird is the creature that opens the heart. When the hurt that caused us to close our hearts gets a chance to heal, our hearts are free to open again. With hummingbird consciousness, we learn the truth of beauty. Our life becomes a wonderland of delights in flowers, aromas and tastes. We laugh and enjoy creation; we appreciate the magic of the present moment, and the magic of being alive.

Eveiyah, the problem with man is that he is too connected to self (Ego) which is referred to as the "evil inclination" by the ancient prophets, who left a blueprint for us to spirituality. If you contemplate this for a moment and ask why do you exist? The only clear conclusion is that we exist because we were created with a "will to receive". Think about this for a minute. Everything you do is for your pleasure. If this does not make sense right now just observe yourself for the next minute, or two.

One's true self comes from within and this is what connects one with being god conscious. When each individual is connects to his or her true self there will be harmony and leads to oneness. Earthly beings are spiritual being having a physical experience, created by the supreme creator in his own image. The spirit is the energy force of the creator that binds individuals to their true self.

Things and times are cyclical. What I mean is the Biblical adage that "there's nothing new under the sun" really is true. So when I say 'what goes around; comes back around' in this context I mean if at first you don't succeed try, try and try again.

In the club
she, dancing up a storm
in the club
grinding against the wall.
In the club
his eyes follow her every move
as she hump and shake
riding the music like a wave
She, giving her all --
he presses her against the wall.
She knows the moment he begins to fall
and count the dollars at the mall.

I watched and while watching a profound sense of sadness settled on my shoulders like a familiar but unwelcome blanket. The story of Faubourg Tremé: The Untold Story of Black New Orleans a film by David Ogsdon and Lolis Eric Elie could have been the story of any parish or country hamlet in Jamaica. There were so many veins to this story; what I initially thought to be an expose on the music of New Orleans, turned into so much more. As the film unfolded, my fascination for the music of the Deep South was given expression and outlet.
